Development Status And Future Trends Of China's Aluminum Processing And Recycling Aluminum Industry In 2018
Dec 20, 2018

On November 21-23, the 10th China Yangtze River Delta Aluminum Summit Forum hosted by Shanghai Aluminum Association held an in-depth exchange of the development status and future trends of China's aluminum processing and recycled aluminum industry in 2018. China's aluminum processing and recycling aluminum industry is facing difficulties due to the continuous optimization of economic structure, environmental pressure and fierce competition in the industry, increased trade friction between China and the United States, significant financial market risks, and increased downward pressure on demand. In the past, 2018 still achieved great development.

In the context of increasing energy shortages and increasingly strict environmental protection policies, adhering to green development and developing a circular economy have become the basic principles for achieving sustainable development in all walks of life. The aluminum industry, one of the manufacturing industries, is certainly no exception. In this meeting, people and experts in the aluminum industry conducted in-depth analysis and countermeasures on the development status and future trends of recycled aluminum.

China's waste aluminum resources grow rapidly

China is a large aluminum producer in the world and a major producer of aluminum in the world. Since the beginning of the 13th Five-Year Plan, China has entered the peak period of aluminum scrapping, and the renewable aluminum resources continue to grow (such as construction, transportation, packaging recycling, etc.), the recycling potential of waste aluminum has begun to mature, and China will enter the period of rapid growth of waste aluminum. In 2017, the total amount of waste aluminum recovered in China was 7 million tons. Due to the state's control over imported scrap metal, the amount of scrap aluminum imports will decrease year by year, forcing enterprises to shift their focus to domestic recycling. The pattern of domestic recycling of waste aluminum has basically taken shape.

China's renewable aluminum consumer market has broad prospects

It is estimated that the total global aluminum consumption will reach 110 million tons in 2020, and the global total consumption of recycled aluminum will also increase significantly. However, there is still a big gap between China and developed countries in terms of recycled aluminum consumption. Among them, the recycled aluminum in the transportation field is more than 20%, and the recycled aluminum for packaging is more than 10% (the can recycling recycling is almost zero). Therefore, China's reclaimed aluminum consumer market still has a large room for improvement, which is an important opportunity for the development of recycled aluminum.

The data shows that more than 70% of reclaimed cast aluminum alloys in Europe are used in the manufacture of parts for the automotive, motorcycle and transportation sectors. More than 80% of ordinary aircraft are made of aluminum alloy, and the amount of Airbus A380 aluminum alloy is more than 60%; the average aluminum alloy consumption of passenger cars has exceeded 150 kg. From the perspective of packaging materials, recycling 13 aluminum beverage cans can save 1 kilogram of gasoline. If every Chinese recycles one aluminum can in a year, it will save 100 million kilograms of gasoline a year. Therefore, the future development direction of China's recycled aluminum industry will be in the field of transportation and aluminum packaging materials.
